NEET PG Seat Matrix — What It Is and How to Read It

Every NEET PG choice you fill must match a seat in the official seat matrix. Here is what the matrix contains, who publishes which part, how to read its category columns, and how clear and virtual vacancies change it round by round.

Quick Answer

The NEET PG seat matrix is the official list of seats in a counselling round — college, course, quota and the number of seats in each category (Open, EWS, OBC, SC, ST, each with a PwD sub-column). MCC publishes the AIQ, deemed, central-quota and DNB matrices on mcc.nic.in; each state publishes its own. The 2026 matrix was not out on 30 September 2026.

2026 status: MCC’s PG page says “The seat matrix from NMC and NBEMS is awaited for commencement of PG Counselling 2026.” We do not quote unofficial seat totals. When the matrix is released it will appear on the MCC PG Medical Counselling page.

What does the NEET PG seat matrix contain?

A seat matrix is a table with one row for each college, course and quota. Each row splits the seats across the reservation categories that apply to that quota. For All India Quota seats the Central Government policy applies — 15% SC · 7.5% ST · 27% OBC-NCL · 10% EWS · 5% PwD (horizontal) — and MCC distributes seats across colleges using a 3200-point roster. That is why one college may show, say, an OBC seat in a subject while another shows an SC seat: the roster, not the college, decides the category.

The matrix lists seats only. It does not show fees, stipend or bond terms, and it does not show closing ranks. For those, check each college’s profile on the MCC site and the college’s own website — see our bond and stipend guide.

Which seat types are there, and who publishes each?

How do you read the columns?

These are the column headings in MCC’s All India Quota seat matrix for PG 2024 (the latest AIQ matrix in MCC’s archive). Expect the same layout in 2026.

ColumnWhat it means
InstituteCollege name and MCC institute code
ProgramCourse, e.g. M.D. (General Medicine), M.S. (Orthopaedics), a diploma or DNB
QuotaAll India, Deemed/Paid, NRI, internal quota and so on
Open / Open PwDUnreserved seats, and the unreserved seats reserved for PwD candidates
General-EWS / EWS PwDEconomically Weaker Section seats
OBC / OBC PwDOBC (non-creamy layer, central list) seats
SC / SC PwD, ST / ST PwDScheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe seats
Total SeatsSum of the row for that college–course–quota
  • •PwD is horizontal. PwD seats sit inside each category (5% overall), so an “OBC PwD” seat is for OBC candidates with a valid online disability certificate.
  • •Zero means zero. If your category column is 0 for a row, you can still be allotted that row’s Open seats on merit — but not the reserved ones.
  • •Course names are grouped. One row may cover equivalent names, e.g. M.D. (Obst. and Gynae) / M.S. (Obstetrics and Gynaecology).

How does the matrix change from round to round?

Round 1 uses the published matrix and shows only clear vacancies. From Round 2, MCC publishes two lists — for example, the clear vacancy and virtual vacancy lists for Round 3 of PG Counselling 2025:

  • •Clear vacancy — a seat that nobody holds. Fill it and, if your rank is high enough, you get it.
  • •Virtual vacancy — a seat held by someone who opted to upgrade. You can choose it, but it becomes yours only if the holder is upgraded elsewhere.
  • •Added / withdrawn seats — MCC posts notices when seats are added to or removed from a round’s matrix.
  • •Round 3 conversions — unfilled PwD seats revert to their category, ST to SC, SC and EWS to UR, and deemed NRI / minority seats to UR, once eligible candidates run out.

Because choices from the previous round are void, re-read the latest vacancy lists every round rather than re-using your old list.

Where are past seat matrices?

MCC keeps previous years in its PG archive. The PG 2024 set was published as four files:

To see which colleges are recognised for which PG courses, NMC keeps a list of colleges teaching PG courses.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the NEET PG seat matrix?▼
It is the official list of PG seats offered in a counselling round: every college, every course (MD, MS, diploma or DNB), the quota the seat belongs to and how many seats sit in each reservation category. You can only be allotted a seat that appears in the matrix or in a vacancy list for that round.
Has the NEET PG 2026 seat matrix been released?▼
Not as of 30 September 2026. MCC's PG page said: "The seat matrix from NMC and NBEMS is awaited for commencement of PG Counselling 2026." MCC will publish it on mcc.nic.in before Round 1 choice filling. State authorities publish their own state quota matrices on their websites.
Where can I find the MCC seat matrix?▼
On mcc.nic.in under PG Medical Counselling (Current Events / News & Events) during the round, and later in the PG archive. MCC publishes separate files for All India Quota, deemed universities, central institutes' internal quota and DNB seats.
What is the difference between clear and virtual vacancy?▼
A clear vacancy is a seat nobody holds. A virtual vacancy is a seat held by a candidate who has opted to upgrade; you can choose it, but you get it only if the current holder is upgraded and vacates it. MCC shows only clear vacancies in Round 1 and both types from Round 2.
Does the seat matrix change between rounds?▼
Yes. MCC issues notices adding or withdrawing seats (for example when NMC permissions change) and publishes fresh vacancy lists before each round. Always choose from the latest list for the round you are in.
Does the seat matrix show fees and bond?▼
No. The matrix lists seats only. Fee, stipend, bond and service conditions are supplied by colleges on the MCC website's institute profiles, and MCC tells candidates to confirm them with the college before locking choices.
