What happens at the personality test stage?

The interview carries 100 marks and is added to your written score. UPSC describes it as a test of general knowledge and ability in your field of study, and of qualities such as intellectual curiosity, balance of judgement, alertness, integrity, initiative and leadership.

  • • Documents: bring originals for age, MBBS qualification, category and disability (if claimed). Without them you may not be allowed before the board.
  • • Travel: UPSC reimburses travel limited to second/sleeper class train fare (Mail/Express).
  • • Dates: no change to an allotted interview date or time will ordinarily be entertained.

How are ties broken in the UPSC CMS merit list?

  1. Equal final marks: more marks in the written exam ranks higher.
  2. Still equal: the older candidate ranks higher.
  3. Same date of birth: the candidate who completed internship earlier ranks higher.
  4. Any remaining tie is resolved at UPSC’s discretion.

The written score counts twice — it is 500 of the 600 marks and the first tie-breaker. Rehearse them with the UPSC CMS previous year papers on Kinase.

What if I qualify but miss the application update window?▼
After the written result, qualified candidates must log in to upsconline.nic.in within the window UPSC gives, update their details and upload proof of passing MBBS. Those who do not submit are not issued an interview e-summon and their candidature is cancelled.
