INI-CET Cutoff — Qualifying Percentile and Last Allotted Ranks

Two different things get called the INI-CET cutoff: the qualifying percentile that makes you eligible for counselling, and the rank at which seats actually ran out. Here are both, straight from AIIMS — the prospectus rule and the last allotted ranks AIIMS printed for the July 2026 session.

Last verified: 30 September 2026 against the AIIMS INI-CET Prospectus Part A (January 2027 session) and AIIMS Result Notification No. 205/2026 and Result Notification No. 216/2026.

Quick Answer

To qualify in INI-CET you need the 50th percentile (UR, EWS, sponsored, foreign nationals) or the 45th percentile (OBC, SC, ST, PwBD). Getting a seat takes far more: in the July 2026 session, the last UR-category candidate allotted an MD/MS/MCh/DM seat in Round 1 was rank 4,799, and rank 6,798 after Round 2.

The rule is the same every session; only the marks behind it change. Because the qualifying line is a percentile of the candidates who sat that paper, there is no fixed pass mark to aim for, and a "cutoff in marks" quoted for one session does not carry over to the next.

At what rank did seats run out last session?

AIIMS ends its Round 1 and Round 2 seat-allocation results with a "Last Allocated Candidate Rank" table. It gives, for each category, the overall INI-CET rank of the last candidate of that category who was allotted a seat in that round — at any institute, in any subject. These are the July 2026 session (INICET May 2026) figures:

How should you read these ranks?

  • They are the outer edge, not your target. The number is the last allotment anywhere. A seat at AIIMS New Delhi, PGIMER or JIPMER in a sought-after clinical subject closes at a much better rank; the full round result lists every allotment by rank, institute and subject if you want a specific one.
  • Reserved-category candidates also win UR seats. Seats go in merit order, and a reserved-category candidate with a high rank can take an unreserved seat, so category columns are not independent queues.
  • Ranks usually move outward in later rounds. Seats vacated by upgrades in Round 2 go further down the list, which is why the main MD/MS category figures are higher in Round 2 — but not every figure moves that way (the PwBD and several MDS figures did not). The open round has its own vacancies and no summary table.
  • Every session is different. Seat numbers change each session and so does the number of candidates, so treat these as a benchmark from one session. The January 2027 session seat list is on the counselling page.

How do you find the closing rank for one institute or subject?

Each round's result notification is a rank-wise list of every allotment. A row shows the roll number, overall rank, category, PwBD status, the allotted subject, the allotted institute and the seat category it was filled under — for example UR-2 or OBC-3 (a roster point), IP (AIIMS institutional preference) or INST (JIPMER institutional seat). Two abbreviations matter: FCNA/NSA means none of the candidate's filled choices was available at that rank, and NR/NP means the candidate did not register or fill choices.

To find how far a particular seat went, search the PDF for the institute and subject together and look at the highest rank allotted under the seat category you would compete for. Do this for Round 2 and the open round too, because upgrades free seats that go to lower ranks.

How do you move your rank?

With +1 / −1/3 marking and ties broken first by fewer negative marks, INI-CET rewards accuracy as much as coverage. Candidates near a closing rank are usually separated by a handful of questions, most of them clinical vignettes and image-based items. Practise INI-CET previous-year questions by subject on Kinase, track the questions you got wrong while feeling sure, and fix those first.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the INI-CET qualifying cutoff?▼
The prospectus sets a percentile, not marks: 50th percentile for Unreserved (including OCI), EWS, sponsored and foreign-national seats, and 45th percentile for OBC, SC, ST and PwBD seats. Bhutanese nationals at PGIMER also need the 45th percentile.
Why does AIIMS not publish INI-CET cutoff marks?▼
Because qualification is defined by percentile. The marks at the 50th or 45th percentile depend on how everyone scored in that session, so the equivalent marks move every time. Your own percentile is on MyPage and in the result list.
What rank got a seat in INI-CET July 2026 session?▼
In Round 1 (Result Notification No. 205/2026) the last MD/MS/MCh/DM seat allotted to a UR-category candidate went to rank 4,799; after Round 2 it was rank 6,798. For OBC the figures were 9,447 and 12,396, for SC 21,077 and 24,605.
Is qualifying enough to get an AIIMS seat?▼
No. Tens of thousands qualify, but seats are few and go in rank order. In the July 2026 session Round 1, the last UR-category candidate allotted any MD/MS/MCh/DM seat at any institute was rank 4,799; seats at AIIMS New Delhi and in popular clinical subjects close far earlier.
Why is the INI-CET MDS cutoff rank so low?▼
MDS has only a handful of seats across the institutes, so they fill within the top ranks: in July 2026 session Round 1 the last UR-category MDS allotment was rank 30.
Where can I see the official INI-CET cutoff ranks?▼
In the seat-allocation result notifications on aiimsexams.ac.in. Each round's result lists every allotment by rank, institute, subject and seat category, and the 1st and 2nd round notifications end with a 'Last Allocated Candidate Rank' table.
